Social History of Alcohol and Drugs (SHAD) Seeking Associate Book Review Editors

The journal Social History of Alcohol and Drugs (SHAD), published by University of Chicago Press, is seeking Associate Book Review Editors, especially with expertise in global south scholarship and/or alcohol. This position entails commissioning, selecting, and editing book reviews for publication in the journal’s bi-annual publication cycle. This position fills an important role in the journal’s editorial team, helping to ensure that SHAD provides scholarly reviews of the newest monographs in the field.

This position enables editors to highlight and encourage engagement with scholarship covering a wide temporal and geographical range, as well as a diversity of topics related to alcohol and drug history. We are currently in particular need of expertise in fields beyond modern Europe and North America. The Associate Book Review Editors will join a small team of other Review Editors who each commission a minimum of 2-3 reviews per year, and who will meet virtually twice per year under the leadership of Dr. Hannah Halliwell. This is a virtual position and is not limited by geography.

Advanced PhD students and early career scholars in History or in a related field are especially encouraged to apply. In your cover letter, please be sure to note any editing or publication experience and indicate how your own research relates to the broad fields covered by SHAD.

To apply please send a CV and short cover letter to: Hannah Halliwell, Book Reviews Editor (Hannah.Halliwell@ed.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is July 5, 2024. SHAD editors will respond within 3-4 weeks.
