The Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies Research at the University of Florida is hiring a full-time permanent lecturer to teach Health Disparities in Society, starting August 2021. Join Points co-founders Trysh Travis and Joe Spillane in a wacky workplace comedy focused on raising the critical thinking skills of “Florida Man,” broadly defined.

Seriously, this is a terrific position for someone whose goal is to work in both the community and the classroom. Health Disparities in Society is the largest minor in UF’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and engages students across the entire university. The Women’s Studies program is in the process of creating a Gender, Sex, and Health track within its thriving major, and the person in this position will participate in shaping that program as well. The position closes on March 29th, so time is of the essence!

Job Description:

The University of Florida Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies Research invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to begin August 16, 2021. We invite applicants who specialize in critical gender, race, and sexuality perspectives in health disparities, equity, and justice, including serving minoritized and underserved communities. This is a 9-month, renewable, non-tenure-track position, appointed 100% in women’s studies.

Applicants should have a strong record of excellence in teaching and service and active interest in current scholarship. The candidate is expected to contribute enthusiastically to the interdisciplinary teaching and service mission of the Center and College by teaching both core required courses and needed electives that contribute to the women’s studies undergraduate curriculum, including the highly successful Health Disparities in Society minor, and to cross-disciplinary curricula (e.g., UF Quest, certificates, minors, majors). Applicants should be trained in and have a research program and teaching experience in feminist, women’s, gender, queer, and/or sexualities studies, with a focus on health and health care disparities, equity, and justice.

Applicants should be prepared to teach three to four undergraduate courses per semester, including Introduction to Health Disparities, Practicum in Health Disparities, and other courses based on center’s need; coordinate the Practicum in Health Disparities and other experiential learning activities (e.g., internship), including building relationships with community partners, cultivate practicum sites and place students at sites; and oversee students’ training and supervision at practicum sites. This position requires participation in center’s duties, including committee work, ongoing training in pedagogy, and curriculum development. The candidate is expected to engage actively in the life and success of the Center and the College.
