The International Center for Drug Policy Studies at Shanghai University (ICDPS Shanghai) is pleased to announce the call for papers for the Second International Forum on Drug Policy, currently scheduled for June 7-9, 2022 in a hybrid format in Shanghai. The theme of the Second Forum will be ‘The Fentanyl and Other Synthetic Opioids Crises: New Challenges and New Responses’.
2022 marks the 110th anniversary of the conclusion of the 1912 Hague International Opium Convention, the first international drugs control treaty. Over the past century, international drug control has achieved many of its objectives. However, the abuse of psychoactive substances around the globe has been reported to increase in the last two decades. Implementation of regulations on these substances is still facing numerous challenges. With the Covid-19 pandemic still sweeping the world and significant changes taking place in several areas, rethinking existing frameworks of policy, regulation and governance of drugs is necessary. It is crucial for drug historians as well as drug policy researchers and practitioners to rethink and discuss how adjustments can be brought to drug policies.
The conference welcomes research on fentanyl and opioids-related crises from all disciplinary perspectives, and drug policy at local, national and international levels.
Proposed topics for this conference include, but are not limited to, the following:
Current situation and emerging trends of the fentanyl and other synthetic opioids-related crises;
Policy and regulations in different countries/jurisdictions on the fentanyl and other synthetic opioids;
Epidemiological studies on the use and abuse of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids;
Comparative studies on the crisis and regulation of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids in different countries and regions;
Challenges of the opioids crisis for the international drugs control system;
Global responses to opioids-related crises and their effectiveness;
Other illicit drug abuse in the opioid crisis.
